The List for Tuesday, January 3rd 2023

Welcome to The List,

Happy New Year…I guess, 20-23 is making it’s presents known….Last night's "Monday Night Football" game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals was postponed, after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field in the first quarter. Hamlin had just tackled receiver Tee Higgins.  He hopped back to his feet, then fell straight backwards.  CPR was administered for several minutes, before Hamlin was taken by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. As of now Hamlin who is 24 years old reportedly had a cardiac event and  is in critical condition.

-----

The Daily Mail says Jeremy Renner is in critical, but stable condition following a snow plowing accident.  Jeremy was airlifted to a hospital on Sunday after First Responders were called to his mansion in the Sierra Nevada mountains. He was reportedly injured while using one of his industrial snow plows. Hollywoodlife.com says the snow plow ran over one of Jeremy's legs. TMZ says one of Jeremy's neighbors, who's a doctor, placed a tourniquet on his leg in order to stop the massive bleeding. That's when Medics arrived and airlifted Jeremy to the hospital. CNN says Jeremy has undergone two extensive surgeries to save his leg.  He has returned from surgery and remains in the intensive care unit in critical but stable condition."

-----

Jelly Roll tells Music Mayhem magazine that he plans to lose weight in 2023. "I’m going to spend the first couple months of the year just focusing on family and health. I lost some weight this year in 2022, but in 2023, I wanna finally conquer the demon. Jelly doesn’t have a big tour until about the middle of the year so,  he says he has a friend that owns a gym and we’re gonna start getting after it at the top of the year.

-----

The National Enquirer claims Tom Cruise was allegedly upset after being snubbed by the Golden Globe Awards for a Best Actor nomination for ''Top Gun: Maverick.'' A source tells the magazine, “Tom expected to walk away with the award for best actor, so you can imagine his reaction when he wasn’t even on the list – he totally blew a fuse! This was the first time in years that Tom was so sure he had a slam-dunk win he was fine-tuning his acceptance speech.”

-----

For the second year in a row…Jason Aldean and wife Brittany rang in the  New Year at Mar-a-Lago.  Brittany shared some photos on Instagram. There's a shot of them posing with Donald and Melania Trump, and a great pic of the former president kissing Brittany's forehead.  The caption reads, "A fairytale ending to 2022."

-----

And finally, the best movies and TV shows of 2022 is out.  The most popular movie was "Top Gun: Maverick".  The most popular show was a tie between "Wednesday", and the fourth seasons of "Ozark" and "Stranger Things".

Garth Brooks fans may have been happy about the country music legend adding more dates to his upcoming Garth Brooks/Plus ONE Las Vegas residency, but other musicians were reportedly frustrated. Sources told Radar Online that Keith Urban and Luke Bryan are concerned that Brooks will make it difficult for them to succeed on the Vegas strip. Bryan doesn’t  currently have any dates scheduled that could conflict with Brooks, but Urban does and was hoping to be the musical star of the desert next year but now it's going to be like 'Well, Garth is sold out, we could just go see Keith,'" a friend told Radar. "Garth's Vegas show is guaranteed to be a blockbuster."

Welcome to The List,

Do you want to know more about Carly Pearce’s life? She tells The Tennessean newspaper to just listen to her songs. "In this next phase, I'm just excited to keep doing what I've always done, which is write what's going on in my life. Do I have a big divorce to write about right now? Thank God no, I don't! I'm grateful for that. I'm grateful that I conquered that chapter of my life in a graceful way. But I'm excited to be able to show fans what I've been up to."

-----

Is Jackson Dean Country? Well he tells Songwriter Universe magazine that he grew up in a tiny shack. "It was just four block walls with a stove in the corner and a couch that I had built and my bed in the corner. It was my dad's room, my uncle's room, my cousin's room, and then it was mine. It was some of the best times of my life, and I would happily do it all over again!"

-----

FemaleFirst.co.UK says Pete Davidson and Emily Ratajkowski are no longer dating. A source close to the pair says, "Their fling has moved into the friend zone. They both seem fine with that." So, ladies! If you’re interested…a slightly used…almost funny comedian is on the market!

-----

This Saturday, CBS is ringing in 2023 with New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash, an epic holiday spectacular featuring some of the biggest names in country music. The special will be co-hosted by singer-songwriters Elle King and Jimmy Allen, as well as Entertainment Tonight correspondent Rachel Smith.  Elle says of the night “They’re going to give me a mic, you just never know what’s going to happen.” The fun starts  at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and continuing from 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.  on the CBS Television Network, and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.

-----

Top Gun: Maverick played in theaters for months and has been available on home video since early November, but none of that stopped Tom Cruise from dominating on Paramount+. The film was finally added to the streaming platform on Dec. 22 and has become the most-watched movie ever for Paramount+ in the U.S. The six Mission: Impossible movies also saw a boost, as Cruise fans could not get enough of his death-defying stunts over the holiday weekend. I just watched Top Gun: Maverick last night!!

-----

Luke Combs simply doesn't miss. The current CMA Entertainer of the Year took to social media Tuesday December 27th to tease yet another new track "Growin' Up and Getting Old." The retrospective tune hits all of Combs's strengths. His ability to suck you into a story and paint a country music picture is truly one of a kind. "Its when you start thinking how much time left you got" the clip starts. "I've been thinking more and more about it these days," Combs continues. The 30 second snippet seems to be a future #1 in the making.

Welcome to The List,

Kane Brown tells Southern Living magazine that growing up he was ALWAYS on the straight and narrow…and it was because of his grandmother she raised him that way. Saying "Nana was a sheriff and a detective. She would take me for drives in her police car, and I would go down to the police station all the time, so the cops always knew who I was. -----

With the Christmas holidays now a memory, it’s time to look forward the New Years celebrations.  Justin Moore says HIS celebrations have mellowed over the years "My favorite kind of New Year’s has changed over the years. Back in the day, we stayed out and turned it up pretty loud and stayed out late and did all that. Nowadays with kids, it’s hard to even make it to midnight, so it’s changed over the years. But it’s changed for the better".

HOLIDAY PACK THE BACKPACK WINNER: MS. KIMBERLY LEACH

Holiday Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our last Holiday Pack the Backpack winner is Ms. Kimberly Leach,  4th Grade Teacher at Colo-NESCO Elementary School. She nominated herself and here's what she wrote to Kix 101.1:

Hello,

Understanding my students’ interests helps me to provide them with quality learning opportunities. By giving them the opportunity to explore areas they are interested in – for example, the environment – they will be more likely to engage with the learning process. Give my students time & opportunities to explore their interests & discover what they truly love to do, so they can develop their knowledge & the skills needed to succeed in the areas they are passionate about. Having the resources available is crucial in providing this environment for my students & their learning.

Since we do not have an art teacher for our K-4 elementary at Colo-NESCO I am in need of art supplies. Children deserve to have this opportunity to express themselves through creativity.

*Art Supplies: paint, brushes, paper, clay

*Snacks & Bottled Water: It’s always wise to have small packages of crackers & a few bottles of water on hand in the event that a student feels that they can’t make it until lunch or dinner.

*Wireless headphones to be used for testing during their technology.

*Pencils & pencil sharpeners: We never seem to have enough pencils or nice pencil sharpeners for the students to use by the middle of the school year. Having enough I would be grateful.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ms. Kimberly Leach

Take a listen to our surprise interview with Ms. Leach below!

Nominate your Kix Country class by submitting a letter to us at backpack@kixweb.com.
