The first time Tim McGraw Tried To Sing “I Called Mama" he got emotional... "When I heard it I cried when it got to the hook of a song. I just sort of fell apart and then I wanted Faith to hear it, but I didn’t want to play … it was just a guitar work tape, and I didn’t want Faith to hear it. I wanted to sing it to her. So, I was trying to learn the words to it really quickly, so I could sing her just the first verse and the course. About 30 minutes I had it ready and I said, ‘I want you to hear this song.’ So, I sat down at the kitchen table I started singing it and I couldn’t get through it. Every time I tried to get to the chorus I would fall apart on it. And she would start crying because I was crying. It has a simple message to it, but it just means so much."

In my 35 year radio career I have had the opportunity to talk with many country artists. Charlie Daniels has a special place in my heart. He reminded me of Santa Claus when he was not wearing his cowboy hat. He was such a sweet soul who loved The Lord Jesus and was not afraid to tell you so. He was a great supporter of our military and loved our country. I had met him many times and when I came to KIX 101.1 the first artist I saw was Charlie Daniels.
This was the first picture taken of Charlie and I and my son Brandon. It was taken backstage at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair in Chippewa Falls
