The construction on State Street has been going on since March of this year. Stage 1, from 3rd Ave to 1st Ave, was recently opened up for traffic and the 3rd St intersection was quickly finished so traffic could flow. Now Stage 2, from 2nd St to 1st St will be opening up for traffic.
That is Marshalltown Public Works Director, Heather Thomas, and she sent an email after my conversation with her yesterday saying that Stage 2 could be open as early as this afternoon. Thomas reminds listeners this whole project is not done.
Thomas mentions that the initial plan called for 2 construction seasons to finish State St. The plan is to have State Street complete before the Main Street project begins, that way people have a good detour road.
