Recently Marshalltown Fire Chief, Christopher Cross, gave his top 10 list for homeowners to stay safe.  You can hear the full list during his Central Iowa Today interview.  Number 3 was to create and have a fire escape plan for your household.

Number two is about space heaters and other heat sources.

He says to keep at least 3 feet of space around that equipment.  Finally, his number 1 tip is to install carbon monoxide detectors.

An honorable mention he gives at the end is to check all of the pipes coming out of your home.  Make sure those pipes are open and able to vent as that could add carbon monoxide into your home.
