The Marshalltown Police Department issued a release regarding the bus accident Monday afternoon.  Around 3:30 in the afternoon, a vehicle pulled out in front of a city bus, which was bringing students home from school, causing a crash at the intersection of 3rd St. and Linn St.  The driver, Reis Hauser, age 43, was charged with three misdemeanors; failure to obey a stop sign and yield to right of way, failure to provide insurance, and use of an electronic device.

Iowa, last year, implemented a new hands-free law and law enforcement began writing tickets starting January 1st.  Earlier in April the Governors Traffic Safety Bureau did a week long enforcement across the state and issued more than 550 citations and 320 warnings.  From January 1st through mid-April, law enforcement has written more than 6,700 citations or warnings for the new hands-free law.
