An employee was injured and transported to the burn unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals after a fire in eastern Marshalltown.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at Critchfield Auto Parts during the Friday noon hour. A gas container was on fire at the rear of the building which soon spread to nearby cars, to the building and to tires, which helped account for the black, heavy smoke.

Marshalltown firefighters were able to eventually put out the fire with help from the ladder truck and ground support.

There is no update on the condition of the person injured in the blaze. The building and contents are deemed a total loss. The investigation into the fire continues.
