The List for Monday, August 7th 2023

Welcome to The List,

We start today with Carrie Underwood opening for Guns N’ Roses on Saturday in Canada.  Fans were treated to a mix of her hits, plus covers of some iconic rock songs.  Several videos of her performance have been making rounds.  And we have the receipts…check them out on our website under The List.  She did a great cover of the Heart classic “Alone”.  (Here’s the video.)  And she totally let loose on Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”.  (Here’sclip of that.)

Before Paul Reubens passed, he completed over 40 hours of interviews for an upcoming HBO documentary about Pee-Wee Herman.  Also, fans have been leaving flowers at the South Pasadena house used in “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure”.  And Danny Elfman honored him at his concert Saturday.

A movie based on the Monopoly game has been in the works for years.  But looks like one will FINALLY happen, but there aren’t any details.

The Grand Ole Opry announced Tuesday (August 1st) that Jon Pardi will officially become a member on October 24th.  Pardi was officially asked to join the Opry while performing at the Stagecoach festival in April. “When I first saw Guy (Fieri) on stage, I was like, ‘What is Guy doing on stage and how’d he get a microphone?’ He knew about it for a long time and like we’re buddies, he never said anything.” Pardi heads out on his headlining Mr. Saturday Night World Tour this month with dates coming up in the U.S., Canada, and several across Europe including stops in the U.K., before heading back stateside for his Oct. 24th Opry induction.

This is interesting….Netflix is releasing a movie where VIEWERS decide the ending… It’s their first-ever interactive rom-com where viewers will decide how the film ends. ”Choose Love” is about a recording engineer, who has to choose between three lovers … her current boyfriend, a pop star and an old crush. Cami goes to a psychic for help. ”Choose Love” starts streaming on August 31st.

As the Barbie movie makes another $30-million at the box office. Mattel is releasing a Weird Barbie Doll. It costs $50. It’s description reads: ”If anyone knows anything about keeping it weird, it’s Weird Barbie, a breakout character from Barbie The Movie. It doesn’t end there…no, The New York Post says dozens of women have gotten a Barbie nose job. Plastic surgeons crafted their noses to look just like Barbie’s. Barbie nose jobs cost an average of $4,000 overseas while in the U.S. they can cost as much as $30,000.  MY question is it Margot Robbie’s nose?  Or …more of a triangular nose you might find on a doll let’s say….

The List for Thursday, December 18th 2025

Welcome to The List,

The Oscars are officially breaking up with ABC and moving in with YouTube. Starting in 2029, the Academy Awards will stream on YouTube, along with all the red-carpet chaos, through at least 2033. ABC still gets the show through the 100th Oscars in 2028, but after that, no channel flipping — you’re clicking a link.

Don’t expect to see Michael Bublé back in the spinning chair next season. He says he’s done with The Voice after dealing with online backlash and missing his family. An insider says the negative comments really took a toll, even though he loves the show and the crew. Sometimes the smoothest crooner in the room just wants to go home and be Dad.

-----

Blake Shelton shared the first time he brought Gwen Stefani home to Oklahoma and it blew her mind. Gwen, raised in Anaheim, saw Blake’s land and asked, “You own this?” Then she spotted a creek and said, “You can have that?” She thought rivers only came with national park admission. Blake called it one of the joys of his life. City girl meets country acreage…

Morgan Wallen is now the highest-selling country artist of all time. He just picked up 80 new certifications and officially crossed 240 million units sold. Luke Combs comes in at number two, Garth Brooks at number three. Let that sink in. Skipped awards shows, topped streaming, and now sits on the mountain. Morgan let the numbers do the talking and they did….loudly.

You can catch The List, weekday afternoon at 4:20 with Jonathan Knight. Only on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1
