Congratulations to Adam Sandler he’s the 2023 recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. He’ll be honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. March 19th. The award recognizes individuals who have had an impact on American society like Twain. Past recipients include Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Jon Stewart, Dave Chappelle, Tina Fey, and Will Ferrell.

Interesting factoid about Tenille Townes!! When she was nine, she was randomly picked out of the crowd to sing with Shania Twain. And now she's an opener on Shania's tour. Yesterday, Tenille shared a throwback photo from that night, along with Shania's 2023 tour announcement showing her as one of the openers.

Keith Urban has picked up some extra Christmas spending money this week . . . by selling his music catalog. He parted ways with the master recordings from 10 studio albums, as well as a greatest hits package. It's unknown how much he cleared in the deal but we know it’s be a good Christmas at the Urban house this year.

Luke Combs' openers pulled a prank on the final night of his Middle of Somewhere Tour. Jordan Davis, Lainey Wilson, and Danielle Bradbery created a silly dance that kinda matched the lyrics of "Going, Going, Gone". They performed it behind Luke's back while he did the song on stage. You know those yule log videos that are popular around the holidays? There’s a new one available for streaming on HBO Max, but rather than a static shot of some logs burning against an aural backdrop of cheesy Christmas music, this yule log holds a deliciously evil secret: a feature length horror/comedy flick that will bend your mind. I’m not going to spoil anything about the plot, But I will tell you it starts with a static shot of a burning yule log and eventually goes so far off the rails you’ll forget the rails ever existed.

If you were a fan of the Ellen DeGeneres Show then you remember Stephen "tWitch" Boss, the DJ!! He would play music for Ellen to dance to in between takes and kept the audience upbeat and entertained as well…well, there is some sad news to report. Law enforcement told reporters from TMZ that Stephen “tWitch” Boss had been found dead in a hotel in Los Angeles, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Fans everywhere are mourning the loss of the iconic DJ. Stephen "tWitch" Boss was 40.

Holiday Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.
Our 2nd Holiday Pack the Backpack winner is Mrs. Jocelyn Schmidt, 4th Grade Teacher at Anson Elementary School. She was nominated by Co-worker, Jennifer Nelson and here’s what she wrote to Kix 101.1:
I'd like to nominate Jocelyn Schmidt for the pack the backpack opportunity!
Jocelyn is an incredibly creative, compassionate, and dedicated teacher. She is always researching strategies to bring into the classroom that could have a positive impact on student learning. Jocelyn utilizes the district curriculum with fidelity and thoroughly plans for interventions for her students. She goes above and beyond with students, even leading a kindness club during her lunch break.
Jocelyn collaborates with her grade-alike colleague and the special ed teacher in planning for the core to ensure that she is delivering instruction that will best meet the needs of all students. She has created a room with a collaborative environment. Any time you walk into her flexible seating classroom, you will find that there is a sense of safety and peace. She sets students up to be leaders and gives them the space to be responsible for their own learning. It is evident that students feel they belong in their classroom.
Jocelyn is always willing to lend a hand. She is also incredibly reflective in her practice. She makes her lessons fun for students and even has dressed up to really engage students. (Viking, etc.) She makes learning fun for her students. Creating an environment as she has is not an easy task, and she does it each year with ease. Her students know she cares about them; she is making a difference in their lives.
Jocelyn deserves this recognition. She is an incredible teacher, one that every parent would want their children to have in their lives.

Nominees for the Golden Globes were announced yesterday . . . and remember how Will Smith was concerned that his behavior at the Oscars would unnecessarily punish the cast and crew of "Emancipation"? Well, that may be EXACTLY what happened . . . because the movie was completely snubbed, even though many people expected it to get some love this award season. Tom Cruise also failed to score a nod for "Top Gun: Maverick". . . even though the movie itself got two, for Best Motion Picture, Drama and Best Original Song.

Luke Combs sitting down at home with his guitar and shared a piece of a song he’s thinking about releasing…it’s called “Tattoo on a Sunburn”..not sure…he took it to Instagram and asked fans…should he release this song? So far the responses have been overwhelmingly positive. check it out HERE

"Billboard" put out its annual year-end report on the top country artists, songs, producers, and everything else you can think of. And the standout again this year was Morgan Wallen. He's at the top of NINE different lists. They include Top Country Artist . . . Top Male Country Artist . . . top album for "Dangerous: The Double Album" . . . and "Wasted on You" was the Top Hot Country Song AND the most-streamed country song in 2022. Walker Hayes. "Fancy Like" was the most-downloaded song of the year…

Lainey Wilson performed "Watermelon Moonshine" on a flatbed trailer on Sunday's episode of "Yellowstone" . . . and it was a "full-circle moment" for her. She says it reminded her of when she was a high school student, and her first gig was performing as a Hannah Montana impersonator on a flatbed trailer stage…Hanna Montana? I feel so old…

The CMA Country Christmas is Thursday on ABC and Carly Pearce shares one of her favorite Christmas memories ... “My favorite Christmas memories is when I worked at Dollywood, I worked in the Christmas show there called Christmas in the Smokies, during Frosty the Snowman, I dressed up as a mascot version of Frosty the Snowman. And just thinking about that girl, who was literally willing to do whatever to be on stage, so much so that she would be Frosty the Snowman, that’s pretty cool." 'CMA Country Christmas airs Thursday 8pm on ABC.
