The List for Monday, May 1st 2023

Welcome to The List,

Happy Birthday to Willie Nelson!!  BroBible says Willie celebrated his 90th birthday with a concert at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night. Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, The Chicks, Ziggy Marley and other stars helped Willie sing some of his classics. Owen Wilson, Ethan Hawke, Jennifer Garner and Helen Mirren were in attendance. Snoop Dogg and Willie sang “Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die.”

-----

Brett Young and his wife broke up many times before they got married, if fact he says the experience was one of his biggest influences in his writing.  So if he was to give “advice” on marriage…it would be… “One that I was given, that really, really worked for us when we first got married, was just because you’re married doesn’t mean you can stop dating. You gotta keep dating, and you have to make time, you have to be intentional about setting dates. That worked for us, now we have two young girls, and we like, for a second we forgot to do that. We thought, okay, everything is given to the kids now, and that’s acceptable. That’s what you should do. You love your children, you give them everything. You can’t stop making time, you know.''

-----

And if you haven’t seen it yet? "The Super Mario Brothers Movie" hit $1 BILLION at the global box office…

-----

Great news for Jon Pardi!!  He’s been invited to join the Grand Ole Opry.  It happened during his performance at Stagecoach on Friday when Alan Jackson appeared on the big screen with the invite.  Jon will be the first native of California to be an official member.

-----

Michael J. Fox turns 62 next month, He was 29 when he was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s back in 1990. A new documentary called "Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie" is coming out on Apple TV+ on May 12th . . . where he shares his struggles and triumphs.  Michael just did an interview with "CBS Sunday Morning" to hype it, and he shared a stark reality:  He said, "I'm not gonna lie, it's getting harder.  Every day gets tougher.  But that’s the way it is . .  I've been thinking of the mortality of it . . . I'm not going to 80."

-----

And finally, Bubbles . . . the chimp Michael Jackson had in '80s . . . is now living at a retirement home in Florida, and he just celebrated his 40th birthday with an ape healthy cake and frosted with mashed bananas.

The List for Friday, April 28th 2023

Welcome to The List,

Jelly Roll won't let his soaring popularity get in the way of his main objective:  Helping people who are struggling, just like he was. Last year, Jelly donated $250,000 to support youth who were locked-up at Nashville's Davidson County Detention Center . . . a facility where HE spent time as a teen.  And there's more where that came from. In an interview with the "New York Times", he says, "That's not even scratching the surface of my plan.  I'm going to build halfway houses and transitional centers.  That's my real heart."

-----

They announced the first-round performers for next month's ACMs.  They include Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Jelly Roll, Morgan Wallen, Ashley McBryde, Keith Urban, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, and Cody Johnson. The "58th Academy of Country Music Awards" is going down May 11th.  It's being held for the first time in Frisco, Texas and it'll air on Prime Video.

-----

Baller Alert says Floyd Mayweather is denying reports he recently purchased a diamond encrusted baseball cap, with his logo, for $1 million. He instagrammed,  “I don’t know who started the rumor that my hat was a million dollars. But it was 30K.” In another post, Mayweather added, “30K is still a pricey number for a Snapback.”

-----

The Wrap says Vince Vaughn has agreed to star in the sequel to "Dodgeball". The original film was released in 2004 and starred Vince and Ben Stiller as rival gym owners. (DROP) The sequel's description reads: "It will continue the story of Vaughn’s prize-winning gym". It was a fun movie, it was a reminder that if a wrench is flying toward you..you should duck.

-----

John Krasinski is working on a movie right now called "If".  It's about a young girl who starts seeing everyone's imaginary friends who've been left behind after their "humans" grew up. And it's got a voice cast that's RIDICULOUSLY stacked.  It includes: Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, and many others.  John says, quote, "This cast is insane.  I know for a fact that I will never get a better cast.". It sounds more interesting than a live action ‘Little Mermaid’.

-----

And finally, with all the other things that are happening in the Judd family since Naomi’s suicide. NOW Pop Culture magazine says her former manager, Michael Dolan, is suing her estate for unpaid commissions. Judd's estate has yet to comment on the lawsuit. Dolan says he's owed a 6% commission for managing Judd's career.

The List for Thursday, April 27th 2023

Welcome to The List,

Jerry Springer, one of the most influential and controversial figures in TV history, has died ... TMZ has confirmed.  Jerry hosted the smash hit syndicated talk show "The Jerry Springer Show" for 27 years ... and it was never a boring moment on the raucous and wild show -- which was known for its outrageous guests who usually got into crazy fights as the audience cheered, "Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!"  A family spokesperson says Jerry was battling a "brief illness." Our sources tell us it was pancreatic cancer that was diagnosed a few months ago, and this week he took a turn for the worse.  The spokesperson says he died Thursday morning, peacefully at his home in the Chicago area.  Jerry Springer was 79.

The internet has found plenty to criticize with these Disney live-action remakes.  But one of the most common gripes is that the CGI-created animal characters look TOO REAL. Disney released official photos of Ariel's friends Flounder, Sebastian the crab, and Scuttle the seagull.  And they don't look cute or relatable . . . just kind of unsettling. Check out the pics here

-----

One place you will never see Kenny Chesney perform is the Superbowl Halftime show…He says if he ever has a chance to perform at the Super Bowl, he might say NO, because it seems like the "kiss of death."  It might be good for his career, but everyone who does it gets a lot of hate too.  So, all things being equal, he'd rather have a beer and watch the game with his dad.

-----

Entertainment Tonight says Sam Hunt and his wife, Hannah, are expecting their second child together. The couple has a 10-month-old daughter named Lucy Lu.. he says life has changed for him…"It's changed drastically. I mean, the way I experience everything on a day-to-day basis is drastically changed.”  He notices things more than before and is comfortable with Lucy just sitting on the floor playing while he has coffee and a book.

-----

If Scotty McCreery comes off as a down home, respectful southern man who just LOVES southern food…you’d be right…He tells Music Mayhem magazine that he's a big fan!  He loves his fried chicken, green beans, all of those things. Cracker Barrel is his restaurant of choice. He recently just found out about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with Cap'n Crunch in the middle. It’s great!"

-----

We’re getting more news about what happened to Jamie Foxx and the reason he’s in the hospital.  Radar Online, claims Jamie has high blood pressure and was stressed during the filming of his Netflix movie. Jamie suffered a serious medical episode and needed immediate attention. It was touch and go for days with him, and he had to be revived - he is very lucky to be alive!

The List for Wednesday, April 26th 2023

Welcome to The List,

Ryan Gosling didn't really see himself as Ken before he was cast in the "Barbie" movie.  He says "If I'm being really honest, I doubted my Ken-ergy.  I didn't see it."  He added that one day he was just living his life, and the next day, "I was bleaching my hair and shaving my legs and wearing bespoke neon outfits and rollerblading down Venice Beach.  Well, we’ll see if movie goers doubt your Ken-ergy when the Barbie movie hits theaters July 21st.

-----

Dolly Parton's first ROCK album is coming this fall.  It's called "Rock Star", and now we know when we'll hear the first single. She told "Good Morning America" it'll debut May 11th at the end of the "ACM Awards", which she's co-hosting with Garth Brooks.  The song is called "World on Fire".  She says it's sort of a "rock anthem.

-----

Luke Combs and his wife Nicole are having a "really difficult time" coming up with boy names for their second son, who's due in September.  They have a hundred girl names on the list, but that's no help.  He kind of expects it'll come down to the last minute just like it did with their son, Tex Lawrence.

-----

Flash back to 1983 and country songstress Crystal Gayle had back-to-back songs go No. 1 in just eight weeks apart. At that time it was unheard of. Now flash forward to this week and everyone's favorite bell bottom queen just shattered that record.  Lainey Wilson’s two chart-topping hits came within three weeks of each other Of course, the two songs we are speaking of are Heart Like A Truck, and this week's No. 1 song with friend HARDY wait in the truck.

 -----

Keith Urban tells Billboard magazine that his daughters don't know what a boom box is. He says, "I was trying to recreate that scene from "Say Anything" where the guy was standing underneath his girl's window with a boom box playing "In Your Eyes". I was telling the family about my idea when my daughter looked at me and asked what a boom box was. I swear I aged 20 years right there. “I bet she knows what a record is though…

-----

And finally, World of Reel says a sequel to ‘Beetlejuice’ is in development in the UK. Tim Burton plans to direct the film. Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder are returning to reprise their roles from the original movie.

April Pack the Backpack Winner: Mrs. Hand

Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our April winner is GMG Elementary 2nd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Hand. She was nominated by a parent, Jessica Slifer, who wrote to Kix 101.1:

I’d love to nominate Mrs. Hand, a 2nd grade teacher at GMG elementary school in Green Mountain.

Mrs. Hand deserves to win because she takes teaching to a whole new level! 2nd graders are at a delicate learning age where reading is really taking off for them & they are starting to learn new subjects like science & history. Mrs. Hand really takes the time to work with each individual student with their own individual learning abilities to make sure they all get what they need to succeed. Her teachings are prime examples of the saying “no child left behind.”

At the beginning of the school year, she let the parents know that she will try to have the kids do all their work while in school so they have more family time in the evenings. She understands that with parents’ busy work schedules & kids activities/sports that doesn’t leave much time for the kids to unwind each evening & have family time. By doing the work in class it opens up a little bit of time for the families in the evenings.

Mrs. Hand is an experienced teacher who found her calling in life as a teacher. She has a class room of kids that adore her & parents that appreciate her. I truly hope you consider her for this amazing program, I couldn’t think of a better teacher who deserves it, thank you!!

Class room needs: Paper (computer paper, construction paper, notebooks), #2 pencils, erasers, Kleenex, disinfecting wipes & paper towels.

Jessica Slifer

Take a listen to our surprise interview with Mrs. Hand below!

Nominate your Kix Country class by submitting a letter to us at backpack@kixweb.com.
