The List for Thursday, September 28th 2023

Welcome to The List,

Whether you like it or not, Taylor Swift is expected to be in the house when Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium this Sunday. That's local for Taylor, because she owns a place in New York City.

-----

Madame Tussauds in Nashville will be unveiling their new wax figure of Kacey Musgraves tomorrow.  There's a video of Kacey seeing it for the first time, and it's pretty cool to witness her reaction. Not only did she approve, she says they nailed it.  And she explained HOW they nailed it.  It took twenty London-based artists about six months to create the figure.

-----

Now that the writers’ strike is over, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and Stephen Colbert are all returning to late night on Monday.  HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" returns Friday, and "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" returns Sunday.

-----

The Daily Mail says Sharon Osbourne recently had another facelift after a previous one made her look like "Quasimodo." She needed more surgery to fix her face. Osbourne says, "This last one was a kind of fix-it job from the guy that did it before. I looked like Quasimodo, because I had one eye here, one eye there. It was wicked.’’

-----

Kelsea Ballerini did one of her photo dumps that featured pics of her at a waterfall, buying pumpkins, grabbing a bite outside somewhere . . . and onstage doing karaoke with Karen Fairchild. They sang the Little Big Town classic "Girl Crush", and Kelsea called it "a new core memory." Click HERE for pics.

-----

Kevin Bacon wanted to be taken as a serious actor in the '80s, so he rejected the fame that came with being in "Footloose".  He tells Penn Badgley on the podcast “Podcrushed” He was “Horrified” – “The last thing I wanted to be was a popstar. I was very very uncomfortable with photoshoots and magazines and all of these things that I had dreamed of as a kid.” He wanted to work with Scorsese..he wanted to BE Di Niro… Everything that he dreamed of as a kid gave himself doubt and anxiety. Somehow I feel closer to Kevin Bacon now...at least by 6 degrees...

And finally, Here's your reminder that tonight's "People's Choice Country Awards" starts at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on NBC.

You can catch The List, weekdays at 2:20 and 4:20 on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1

The List for Wednesday, September 27th 2023

Welcome to The List,

"Rolling Stone" put together a list of the 50 Worst Decisions in Movie History.  Will Smith made it on the list twice . . . for slapping Chris Rock AND for turning down "The Matrix" to make "Wild Wild West". Burt Reynolds turns down James Bond, "The Godfather", "Star Wars", "Pretty Woman", and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".  Now that’s an EPIC run of bad decisions. Their top spot went to the 1956 movie "The Conqueror".  Not only did it star noted white guy John Wayne as the Asian warlord Genghis Khan. . . they also filmed it at nuclear testing sites in Utah.

-----

Football traditions can be deadly.  And not just for Buffalo Bills fans. There's a family of Miami Dolphins fans who take a shot of tequila every time their team scores a touchdown. Well, on Sunday, the Dolphins crushed the Denver Broncos 70 to 20.  For those of you who need help with the math, 70 points is 10 touchdowns.  Meaning everyone in the family had to take 10 TEQUILA SHOTS in about three and a half hours. One of them Tweeted that it might be time to rethink the tradition.

-----

If you haven't seen Jelly Roll Grand Marshalling NASCAR's playoff race on Sunday, check it out. It was at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.  People don't always get fully into it when they say "drivers, start your engines."  But he WENT for it.  He screamed so hard, you could actually see him shaking at one point. NASCAR posted the video on X, formerly known as Twitter, and said, "The energy has been brought." Jelly retweeted it and joked that he "understood the assignment."  (Here's the video.)

-----

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood will host President Jimmy Carter's Habitat for Humanity project next week.  It takes place October 1st through the 6th in Charlotte, North Carolina. This will be the first event the Carters won't be able to attend because of health reasons.

-----

Luke Combs has had his share of crossover hits.  In fact, his cover of "Fast Car" peaked higher on the Billboard Top 200 than Tracy Chapman's original.  But don't worry about Luke switching over to pop.  He's not interested. He said,  quote, "Country music is enough.  I don't want to be a pop star.  I love our genre and I love writing country songs with my songwriting buddies and singing them with the guys that I like to make records with."

-----

And lastly, The Taylor Swift / Travis Kelce relationship already has MERCH a lot of it on Esty…mostly in the form of different shirts going for between $10 to $38, plus some luggage with a $206 price tag.

You can catch The List, weekdays at 2:20 and 4:20 on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1

September Pack the Backpack Winner: Kelsea Anderson

Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our 1st winner of the School Year is Kelsea Anderson – 4th Grade Teacher at South Tama County Elementary School. She was nominated by co-worker, Maci Fritz, who wrote to Kix 101.1:

Every year, I see Kelsea going above and beyond her roles as a teacher. One thing that she does, which I think is so special, is raise money to buy each of her students in her class a book, every month! The students get to keep this book and take it home. The goal is to expand her students' home library, which is amazing! In our community, we have a good handful of our students whose parents can't necessarily afford to buy them books, or even school supplies for that matter, so the fact that she is doing this is so admirable. As a young teacher myself, she has always been someone whom I've looked up to and respected! Kelsea deserves this recognition and more!

She could use things like: pencils, crayons, sticky notes, Kleenex, paperclips, note books, folders & much more.

Take a listen to our surprise interview with Kelsea Anderson!

Nominate your Kix Country class at Kixweb.com.

Martin Scorsese is whining about comic book movies again.  He says theaters have to step up and save cinema by championing movies that can move audiences emotionally. Saying "I was talking with Clay Walker and was expecting this super profound piece of advice from him. The “Mind On You” singer revealed that Clay told him 'You need to put your songs on TikTok!' That was not the answer I was expecting!”

-----

On a weekend where the Dolphins cremated the Broncos 70 to 20, the only thing the sports world could talk about was Taylor Swift being at Arrowhead Stadium to watch her (supposed) boyfriend Travis Kelce play. A Native American activist named Rhonda LeValdo is hoping that Taylor might help her to get the Chiefs to abandon some of their more troubling traditions . . . like the tomahawk chop, and maybe even the team name.

-----

Brad Paisley is releasing new music on Friday called "Son of the Mountains: The First Four Tracks".  He'll also be premiering videos for "Son of the Mountains" and "The Medicine Will" during a YouTube livestream at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, along with a live Q&A.
