October Pack the Backpack Winner: Mrs. Ruby Johnson

Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our October winner is 3rd Grade Teacher at South Hamilton Elementary, Ruby Johnson. She was nominated by her co-worker, Alison Hassebrock, who wrote to Kix 101.1:

Hi Kix 101.1!  I would like to nominate Rebecca (Ruby) Johnson, a third grade teacher at South Hamilton Elementary School in Jewell, Iowa.  Ruby is a busy mother of five and all of her children are active and just as generous as their mother.  Ruby teaches more than just academics.  Mrs. Johnson teaches students to love, to be kind, to make good choices, and to love life!  She is as adventurous as her students! An avid hiker, climber, kayaker, bicyclist and runner, Ruby doesn’t slow down.  She welcomes third graders every morning with her warm smile.  Ruby teaches science and it is not unusual to hear about the crayfish she has students investigating.  She also hatches Monarch butterflies and will care for just about any living creature while teaching her students to do the same.  Mrs. Johnson is an example of what teaching really is.  She believes everyone can learn, everyone can do great things, and everyone deserves the best.  I nominate Mrs. Johnson because she is an educator who always gives it her all, goes the extra mile, and she is an educator I respect and look up to.  Please consider Ruby for this honor.

Regards,

Alison Hassebrock

First Grade Teacher

The List for Tuesday, August 12th 2025

Welcome to The List,

Radar Online says Ana de Armas is getting real tired of Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Relationship Impossible.” She’s ready to be acknowledged as his girlfriend, start picking out baby names the whole deal. But Tom’s still in stealth mode, claiming he’s “protecting what they have.” Ana’s not buying it. If he doesn’t make it public soon, she’s ready to eject from the cockpit.

Christie Brinkley thinks marriage should come with a five-year boredom clause like Netflix, but for your spouse. You hit year five, decide if you wanna renew or cancel…no messy lawyers, just “thanks for the memories, babe, best of luck.” Honestly? That might be the most honest wedding vow I’ve ever heard.

-----

Miranda Lambert’s rounding up her Texas crew for Band Together Texas a benefit concert to help victims of the deadly Fourth of July floods that hit central Texas, killing over 130 people. The show’s August 17th at Austin’s Moody Center with Cody Johnson, Kelly Clarkson, Ronnie Dunn, Wade Bowen, and Parker McCollum. Among others.  Can’t make it? Stream it live on Miranda’s YouTube or donate at BandTogetherTexas.com. Big stars, big cause, big Texas heart.

-----

Ella Langley is hitting pause on touring after feeling “more run down than ever.” She’s postponing her August shows to focus on her mental, physical, and emotional health but promises she’ll be back on the road in September. Sometimes you just gotta listen to your body… and maybe your tour bus.

You can catch The List, weekday afternoons at 4:20 with Jonathan Knight. Only on Iowa's BEST Country KIX 101.1
