January Pack the Backpack Winner: Mr. Alex Abbe

Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our January winner is Marshalltown High School Teacher, Alex Abbe. He was nominated by parent, Amber Chairez, who wrote to Kix 101.1:

My name is Amber Chairez & my daughter attends MHS in Marshalltown. She has a teacher there by the name Mr. Abbé. He has made a huge impact on my daughter & her schooling. She has struggled with classes & he is there to help. It has made school so joyful for her & loves going to see him in class & knowing he will help her & also make her smile being goofy. The way my daughter talks about him & how much he cares for each student that walks through his classroom door, I personally can’t thank Mr. Abbé enough for what he has done for my child, let alone each child he has helped along the way. I believe he is deserving of a little extra help as he does all he can to help each student succeed in life.

Take a listen to our surprise interview with Mr. Abbe below!

Nominate your Kix Country class by submitting a letter to us at backpack@kixweb.com.

Tinker 6/17/25

Our KIX Critter of the Week!! Tinker!!

Tinker was surrendered after his owner could no longer care for him. He’s an incredibly sweet and gentle cat who’s looking for a quiet, loving home to call his own.

Tinker enjoys lounging in his bed and taking it easy. He’s not very playful, but he loves chin scratches and relaxing near his favorite people. He’s the perfect cat for someone looking for a calm, low-key companion. He is cat friendly and his adoption fee is only $17.50!!

Tinker is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLV tested, and microchipped.

If you’re looking for a laid-back, affectionate cat, Tinker is ready to meet you.

The List for Monday June 16th 2025

Welcome to The List,

Luke Combs just picked up 34 new certifications from the RIAA over the weekend. That's not a typo—thirty-four. That officially makes him the second-highest selling country artist of all time. So yeah, Luke’s not just crying at your wedding—he’s crying all the way to the bank.

-----

Brantley Gilbert stopped mid-song when a fan fainted—cleared the crowd, checked on her himself, and then went full WWE on a lazy security guard: “Don’t stand there in a uniform if you ain’t gonna do sh—. Go on somewhere. Bye!” Crowd erupted. Security probably updated their LinkedIn.

-----

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are reportedly done. “People” magazine says the couple’s been on the rocks, and it’s basically over. They’ve been together since 2016 and have a daughter, Daisy, who turns 5 in August. Well, love may bloom... but sometimes it just wilts.

-----

Rob Lowe admits his favorite workout song is “the cheesiest thing in the world.” And what is it? "Eye of the Tiger." That’s right—straight outta Rocky 3. He says he won’t max out without it. Meanwhile, if he’s running? No music. Just raw-dogging the wind like a true ‘80s action hero.

You can catch The List, weekday afternoons at 4:20 with Jonathan Knight. Only on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1
