HOLIDAY PACK THE BACKPACK WINNER: MRS. JOCELYN SCHMIDT

Holiday Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Our 2nd Holiday Pack the Backpack winner is Mrs. Jocelyn Schmidt, 4th Grade Teacher at Anson Elementary School. She was nominated by Co-worker, Jennifer Nelson and here’s what she wrote to Kix 101.1:

I’d like to nominate Jocelyn Schmidt for the pack the backpack opportunity!

Jocelyn is an incredibly creative, compassionate, and dedicated teacher. She is always researching strategies to bring into the classroom that could have a positive impact on student learning. Jocelyn utilizes the district curriculum with fidelity and thoroughly plans for interventions for her students. She goes above and beyond with students, even leading a kindness club during her lunch break.

Jocelyn collaborates with her grade-alike colleague and the special ed teacher in planning for the core to ensure that she is delivering instruction that will best meet the needs of all students. She has created a room with a collaborative environment. Any time you walk into her flexible seating classroom, you will find that there is a sense of safety and peace. She sets students up to be leaders and gives them the space to be responsible for their own learning. It is evident that students feel they belong in their classroom.

Jocelyn is always willing to lend a hand. She is also incredibly reflective in her practice. She makes her lessons fun for students and even has dressed up to really engage students. (Viking, etc.) She makes learning fun for her students. Creating an environment as she has is not an easy task, and she does it each year with ease. Her students know she cares about them; she is making a difference in their lives.

Jocelyn deserves this recognition. She is an incredible teacher, one that every parent would want their children to have in their lives.

The List for Monday, March 23rd 2026

Welcome to The List,

Keith Urban is officially boarding the yacht rock cruise. The country star says a full covers album is coming. It will feature classic yacht rock songs and only one original track. He even teased fans with a smooth cover of Stephen Bishop’s “On and On.” No release date yet. But apparently Keith brought boat shoes.

-----

ABC may be ready to dump The Bachelorette for good. Insiders claim executives now call the franchise “toxic.” Critics say the show stopped being about love and started chasing messy drama. Ratings have been sliding for years. The big question inside ABC now is simple. Is it finally time to pull the plug.

-----

Travis Kelce is apparently running an investigation. Someone has been leaking details about his wedding plans with Taylor Swift. Sources say Travis is trying to figure out who is talking. He is also trying to keep Taylor calm about the chaos. Because nothing says romance like a celebrity leak hunt.

-----

Luke Combs just turned Las Vegas into a country concert record book. His show at Allegiant Stadium pulled in 70,921 fans. That breaks the stadium record previously set by a massive boxing match. Country music just beat prize fighting in Vegas. Luke Combs basically threw the knockout punch.

You can catch The List, weekday afternoons at 4:20 with Jonathan Knight. Only on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1
