The List for Friday, December 9th 2022

Welcome to The List,

Celine Dion is dealing with a rare neurological condition called “Stiff Person Syndrome”.  It may sound made-up, but it’s real . . . and it’s pretty serious. In an Instagram message to fans, she said that it affects only about one in a MILLION people, and it’s been causing the debilitating spasms she’s been experiencing. that makes it difficult to sing and even walk.

Have you ever been to a concert and locked eyes with one of the performers?  They’re not faking the connection.  Well, at least Cody Johnson isn’t.  He says there’s a “perfect pinpoint” to fans when he’s on stage, and he uses it. “If you look at people in the eye you [can] see them waving and when you wave, they see it.  I try to make a personal connection with people, no matter where they’re sitting.  I know that sounds weird and impossible, but it’s possible.”

Elle King had to cancel shows after suffering a concussion.  She slipped down the stairs in the middle of the night making a bottle to feed her son.  Saying “I tried to push and played three shows, but the travel, lights, all of it exacerbated things.”  Elle thanked the artists who stepped in for her.

Roker was rushed back to the hospital the following day for the same problem and remained there for nearly two weeks. Now, he’s back home and happy.

Jackson Dean says he wants to spend Christmas this year with his extended family “My sister had a kid, my brother had a kid, and there’s about 11 of us in the immediate family now. And I’ve been gone for a while man, I have not been present. I’ve been out doin’ my thing and I don’t get to see ‘em too often, so , I’m gonna just go home and be present.” The “Don’t Come Lookin’ star opens for Eric Church at the Iowa State Fair in August next year.

The List for Thursday, February 12th 2026

Welcome to The List,

We are saddened to report that James Van Der Beek has passed away at the age of 48 after battling stage 3 colorectal cancer. His family confirmed the news on social media, sharing that he had been fighting the disease since August 2023. Van Der Beek became a household name as Dawson Leery on Dawson's Creek, a show that defined a generation of television. He leaves behind his wife and six children. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans.

Players on the winning Super Bowl team get $178,000 from the NFL. But Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold could reportedly lose money because of California’s “jock tax.” Out-of-state players get taxed based on duty days spent in the state. With his massive contract and bonuses, estimates say he could owe between $200,000 and $250,000. Win the ring, lose to taxes. Classic.

-----

Luke Combs just revealed the full 22-song tracklist for his new album The Way I Am. It includes a duet with Alison Krauss. And a song written by Cody Johnson. Twenty-two songs is not an album. That is a weekend.

-----

Kelly Clarkson is reportedly ending her talk show and says she has no regrets. Sources say it is about quality of life, not money. She is excited, but sad to leave staff she considers family. Sometimes success is not about doing more. It is about breathing again.

You can catch The List, weekday afternoons at 4:20 with Jonathan Knight. Only on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1
