The List for Monday, August 1st 2022

Welcome to The List,

Someone once said that major celebrity deaths come in THREES.  It’s unclear who first said that . . . and if they’ve died, who were the other two people who died at the same time.   We lost three beloved celebrity old-schoolers over the weekend.  Nichelle Nichols from “Star Trek” . . . NBA legend Bill Russell . . . and actress Pat Carroll, who provided the voice of Ursula in “The Little Mermaid”.

Luke Bryan brought a little happiness to two boys at his show on Saturday.  They were holding up a T-shirt that said, “Our dad died.  Can we sing ‘Drink a Beer’ together?”  Not only did he sing with them, but he also put on the shirt.

—–

Britney Spears finished writing a tell-all, but it won’t come out anytime soon . . . because there isn’t enough paper.  Lucky US…There’s apparently a global paper shortage, so until it’s resolved, there isn’t an estimated release date.

—–

On Friday, Will Smith put out a five-minute video, where he apologizes for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.  It seems sincere, but it also took him almost SIX MONTHS to put out. The video is titled “It’s been a minute,” and it HAS.  Actually, it’s been about 244,000 MINUTES since the Oscars.  In it he says,  he’s reached out to Chris Rock and hasn’t heard anything back yet,  Jada had nothing to do with it and that he is devoted to bringing joy into the world.

—–

Tragedy struck Kenny Chesney’s show in Denver on Saturday when a fan fell off the side of an escalator and died.  Police said she was sitting on the railing when it happened.  Kenny was “devastated” by the news, and said he’s grieving for the woman and her family.

—–

Twitter went wild over a fan page showing that George Jetson from “The Jetsons” was born . . . yesterday July 31st 2022…..

You can catch The List weekdays at 2:20 and 4:20 on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1

The List for Thursday, February 12th 2026

Welcome to The List,

We are saddened to report that James Van Der Beek has passed away at the age of 48 after battling stage 3 colorectal cancer. His family confirmed the news on social media, sharing that he had been fighting the disease since August 2023. Van Der Beek became a household name as Dawson Leery on Dawson's Creek, a show that defined a generation of television. He leaves behind his wife and six children. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans.

Players on the winning Super Bowl team get $178,000 from the NFL. But Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold could reportedly lose money because of California’s “jock tax.” Out-of-state players get taxed based on duty days spent in the state. With his massive contract and bonuses, estimates say he could owe between $200,000 and $250,000. Win the ring, lose to taxes. Classic.

-----

Luke Combs just revealed the full 22-song tracklist for his new album The Way I Am. It includes a duet with Alison Krauss. And a song written by Cody Johnson. Twenty-two songs is not an album. That is a weekend.

-----

Kelly Clarkson is reportedly ending her talk show and says she has no regrets. Sources say it is about quality of life, not money. She is excited, but sad to leave staff she considers family. Sometimes success is not about doing more. It is about breathing again.

You can catch The List, weekday afternoons at 4:20 with Jonathan Knight. Only on Iowa’s BEST Country KIX 101.1
