The best high school in the state is located in Ames. That’s what U.S. News says in its 2019 Best High SChool report.
Ames was ranked the No. 1 high school in Iowa with an overall scorecard of 94.69 out of 100. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college, according to the report.
Grinnell is 29th in the ratings, Newton 127th, Marshalltown is is grouped in the 216-319 rankings.
AHS scored an 89 percent in mathematics proficiency and 88 percent reading proficiency.
The graduation rate for the high school was 92 percent, a bit below the state average. U.S. News reported Iowa had a 95.2 percent mean graduation rate in the country.
