Iowa has the 2nd highest rate of new cancer cases in the nation and it has been a hot topic down in the capital city to start this legislative session.  State Senator in District 26, Kara Warme, is part of the Health and Human Services Committee. She said they asked the University of Iowa to study why this is occurring in our state.

Warme explains why Colorectal cancer has also been added to the study due to the prevalence in Iowa, it is a top 5 cancer here.  She says the study looked at what stage are people catching their diagnosis in Iowa.

Warme says you got to take the good news with the bad news.  The one outlier was Lung Cancer

The state of Iowa has applied for some grants from the Federal Government

Governor Kim Reynolds has said the first $50 million will be going towards cancer screening and prevention across the state.
