Wade Dooley and his family have farmed on land just north of Marshalltown since the 1850s.  Dooley has announced his plans to run for Secretary of Agriculture and he has three priorities in his campaign, local food systems, building community, and water quality.  Dooley joined KFJB to talk more in depth about those ideas.  He talks about his first point, local food systems.

Dooley wants to invest more into the local food hubs, he also believes there is a connection with the local schools.  The local food systems is similar to his building community priority.

Dooley believes that people do not need to agree on everything to work together, people just need to find some common ground. He then highlights something that has been discussed a lot recently, water quality.

Dooley practices what he preaches and has roots in the ground on his farm year ‘round.  He currently has rye in his fields and then uses cover crop between harvests.
