Manager Lou Brown in Major League said, “If we win today, it’s called ‘two in a row’ and if we win again tomorrow, it’s called a winning streak.” The Marshalltown Fire Department is now on a winning streak as they won the Des Moines Fight for Air Climb for the third year in a row. As winners the Marshalltown Fire Department have the ceremonial traveling axe and they won some Fareway Grocery Gift Cards for their house funds.
This stair climbing event is held once a year in Des Moines to raise money for the American Lung Association. Climbers were going up the stairwells at these buildings; 15 floors at the EMC Insurance Companies, 32 floors at the Hub Tower (climbers did this building twice), and 32 floors at the Ruan. It is a total of 79 floors and 1,656 steps.
This years team included Lieutenant Nick Hanus, Lieutenant Jason Johnston, Firefighter Dan Oswald, Firefighter Cody Schmidt, Firefighter Cody German, Firefighter Luke Higgins, Firefighter JJ Simms, and Probationary Firefighter Brandon Fogt.
