The City of Marshalltown shared exciting news, if everything continues as planned, the north side of Main Street from Center St. to 1st Ave. will be opened Wednesday, April 8th. The intersection at Main Street and 1st Ave, the southside of the road and the event plaza space will remain closed. Sidewalks on the northside of the road will be open along with any access to businesses on the northside of the road. The goal is to have the event plaza space finished by the Rev Up Downtown event planned by the Marshalltown Central Business District on May 27th.
Finally, the big announcement is that the final two blocks of Main Street heading east will be closed. The blocks from 1st Ave to 3rd Ave will be closed to vehicle traffic. There will be two temporary granular pedestrian crossings at mid blocks to help provide access to businesses in the area. Parking within parking lots in these blocks will be accessible from alleys.
For flow, adjacent alleys will become One-Way Alleys. The east/west alley between Church St and Main St will be one-way and allow eastbound traffic only. The east/west alley between Main St and State St will be one-way and allow westbound traffic only.
