Crop insurance early planting date for soybeans in Iowa is April 10th for the southern third and April 15th for the northern two-thirds of the state. With the recent stretch of warm weather, farmers may be looking to start planting as soon as possible. Marshall County Sheriff Joel Phillips says he has seen an increase in tractor traffic this spring.
Larger does not always mean better, the equipment has become so big they are often bigger than the width of the roadways. They also do not travel as fast as typical car.
Sheriff Phillips reminds listeners that if those fertilizer tanks are involved in a crash, the contents make that situation extremely dangerous. If you see the orange triangle on the back of a vehicle slow down. Those vehicles are traveling much slower than typical traffic.
