The Compost Facility in Marshalltown opened over the weekend to start the season. Hours of Operation are as follows; the facility is closed Monday – Thursday.  They open Friday at 10am and stay open until 6pm.  Then on Saturdays they are open from 9am – 4pm and Sundays they open 12 o’clock noon to 4pm. The fee schedule is listed on their website, Marshalltown-ia.gov, and it has not changed since 2024.

With a signed liability waiver & $20 loading fee, city staff are available by appointment only on Fridays from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm for loading assistance on large loads of compost or wood chips (when available). Compost is sold only to residents, no commercial or contractor operations. Please request this appointment through the compost gatekeeper.

The city offers an after-hour’s compost facility access license at a cost of $500 annually.  Regular gate fees still apply.  If you are interested in learning more, please contact Marshalltown Public Works at 641-754-5734.
