Today will be a good reminder that we are coming out of winter and the spring showers are just around the corner.  Kim Elder is Marshall County Emergency Management Coordinator wants people to know the difference between a watch and a warning.

Elder says it is important for people to know where they can find that information

People can sign up for those alerts at homelandsecurity.iowa.gov. Elder shares that they have created a new website locally for information.

Elder also puts out information on their Facebook page, Marshall County Emergency Management.

The National Weather Service has announced the enhanced risk for severe weather this afternoon and tonight.  While there will be showers and possible thunderstorms this morning, the higher chance for severe thunderstorms will be late afternoon into this evening.  The National Weather Service says large hail and damaging wind gusts are possible.  The weather will be ripe for potential tornadoes and the highest threat is southern and central Iowa.

The National Weather Service is predicting the major storms to move into the central Iowa area around 6pm tonight and they should sustain through early morning on Saturday.  Alert Iowa is a great resource that people can customize alerts to receive.  Alert Iowa will give people updated information about the severe thunderstorms moving across our community today.
