The Iowa Legislature has presented three different plans for school spending, the Senate proposed a 1.75% increase in per pupil spending, Governor Reynolds proposed a 2% increase and the Iowa House has proposed a 2.25% increase. Iowa House Member, David Blom, talks about key items during negotiations.
Blom says they have agreed on the first $7 million of that spending.
There are a lot of districts that have declining enrollment, and even with a 2% increase per pupil spending schools would see a net decrease in state support.
The conversations will continue this week down in Des Moines on school spending. The deadline has already passed for when this was supposed to be finalized and sent to schools.
