Early Monday morning, the Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a commercial fire in the 1700 block of South 7th Ave. in Marshalltown. Once on scene, the fire fighters found a three-story apartment with a working fire in an apartment on the ground level. The fire department helped occupants of the building evacuate while battling the blaze.
Fire crews found a working fire in the kitchen area of an apartment. That fire was quickly brought under control with a single hose line and it was contained to the original apartment. The building was ventilated and occupants were able to re-occupy following the incident.
The family of the apartment where the fire was extinguished has been displaced, but is being supported and stabilized by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire was a stove-top cooking fire. Two occupants of the building were evaluated by EMS, treated for minor injuries and released at the scene.
