While it seems like we have had cold temperatures for over a month now, the temperatures have not been quite cold enough for the ice in the ice rink to freeze.  This past weekend was bitter cold on Saturday but to freeze the ice for the ice rink it needs more than 1 day, it needs about a week of weather in the mid 20s.  This week we could see highs in the upper 30s and even 40s in the middle of the week, so it may be another week or so before the rink officially opens.

The city plans to use a similar system as previous years, the red flags up mean the rink is closed while the green flags will signal that the rink is open.  People can check out skates again this year from the Park and Rec office on State Street.  When the rink is open hours will be dawn until 9pm and it is free to use.
