Lille Mae Chocolates has been in business for 85 years and with that comes a lot of history. Recently owners Tom Snyder and Aimee Deimerly-Snyder, have had this old Lillie Mae Chocolates box for many years and never thought to open it.
Deimerly-Snyder says something in her told her to open the box on Monday, the 250th Marine Corp birthday and the day before Veterans Day.
When they finally opened the box, they found paperwork for an Iowa Soldier who served in the Spanish American War. In total they found 4 documents that were rolled up like scrolls.
The goal is to track down the family of James H. Ellis. Anyone with any information is asked to stop by Lillie Mae Chocolates and help them out. Deimerly-Snyder thought this was meant to be with her history at the Vets home but also Tom’s service with the Marines.
Currently the box is on display in their new shop, which is just 1 building to the south on 13th St.
