Emergencies can happen at any moment and can look many different ways.  The emergency could be your vehicle breaking down, it could be a broken utility at home, or a major injury.  When it comes to injuries, time is crucial.  UnityPoint is offering a Stop The Bleed class to teach people how to respond to a major bleeding emergency.

That is Jeff Gilchrist, RN and Trauma Program Coordinator with UnityPoint in Marshalltown.  In rural Iowa, it can take first responders up to 10 minutes or longer to get on scene.  Each second is critical

Gilchrist says that it is the friends, family, and bystanders who provide the immediate care that can make the biggest difference.  The Stop The Bleed class is free to sign up on the UnityPoint website, unitypoint.org

This is the 2nd year that the class has been offered and Gilchrist says he wants to offer this class annually if not more frequently.
