This week starts the Median project on Center Street next to Hy-Vee. The City of Marshalltown is fixing the center median and making look like the rest of the medians on Center Street south of the Anson Street intersection.

That is Heather Thomas, Marshalltown Public Works Director. She says, the first part of this project will be to eliminate the triangle median in the right turn lane heading into Hy-Vee. This triangle median was originally there to prevent people from continuing north in the right lane. Thomas feels that is no longer needed.

This phase should take about 2 weeks and the right lane will be closed through this portion of the project. Phase 2 will be working on the Center Median and matching it to other medians on Center Street.

The lanes coming south will have the closest lane to the median shut down. All lanes will shift to the right 1 lane, so your left turn lane will be the traditional straight lane, through this portion of the project.

In total this project should last about 5 – 8 weeks all weather permitting. Construction season has officially kicked off within the city of Marshalltown
