Around 11:45am yesterday, the Marshall County Communication Center contacted the Green Mountain and Albion Fire Departments about a controlled burn that had gotten out of hand.  The burn was taking place around the 2700 mile of Garwin Rd.  The Marshalltown Airport had readings of wind at 14 mph, and with that strong wind, the fire spread passed the original fire-line and over Burnett Creek into Marshall County Conservation property along Highway 14.  At the time of the press release the fire departments are not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this fire.  Green Mountain Fire Chief, Patrick Cornwell, says in a statement, “Current environmental conditions are allowing fires to spread out of control very quickly…. This includes wind speed, wind directions, and the relative humidity. These conditions can change in the blink of an eye and once you’ve started that fire, it may be near impossible to stop the fire without additional assistance.”
