6th Grader who was shot was identified over the weekend:
The 6th grader who died last week on Thursday from the shooter in Perry was identified over the weekend as Ahmir Jolliff. Funeral services will be held this week for Jolliff, a visitation is schedule for Wednesday at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home from 10am – 7pm. The funeral will take place Thursday, January 11th at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry. Online condolences can be made at caldwellparrish.com. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is still working on this case, 5 others were shot on Thursday but they were all in stable condition before the weekend.
Administrator who was injured was identified over the weekend and is in stable condition:
One administrator was reported all day Thursday as being a victim of the Perry shooting. It was finally confirmed that administrator was High School Principal Dan Marburger. Marburger was taken from the High School to a hospital and went into surgery Thursday morning. He was able to move to stable condition on Friday before the weekend started. His daughter made a post on Facebook, Claire Marburger, and mentioned her father was protecting kids during the shooting and even confronted the shooter. The state Department of Public Safety said Marburger, who is being treated in a Des Moines hospital, “acted selflessly and placed himself in harm’s way in an apparent effort to protect his students.” Marburger was injured along with 5 students, 1 of which died from injuries sustained.
Perry Community was shown support at Basketball games Friday Night:
The Perry Community was shocked on Thursday last week, but Friday Iowans across the state showed their support of the community. Students and fans from across the state wore blue on Friday to High School Basketball games in support of Perry. The Marshalltown Bobcats wore warm ups that said, “Pray for Perry” and Ames, who is Orange and Black, wore blue warm up shirts. Superintendent of Perry Community School District, Clark Wicks, mentioned that they will not resume classes until Friday this week, at the earliest. “This is an extremely painful and difficult time for our entire school community, and in our grief, we will take time to remember,” Wicks said.
Perry Boy Scout Troop holds drive for Teddy Bears:
The Boy Scout Troop in Perry, IA stepped up quickly after the shooting lsat week that rocked the community. Troop 127 out of Perry, IA and Mid-Iowa Council began collecting Teddy Bears for the younger siblings and members of the community. They started by putting a call out on their Facebook page, Perry BSA Troop 127, and that call has been seen across the state. The unit mentions that they have received teddy bears from Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Fort Dodge, and the metro. The Troop started passing out the bears over the weekend, you can find photos of ALL the bears that were donated on their Facebook page. They have donation boxes set up around town at Hy Vee, Ace Hardware, Ben’s Five and Dime, Tractor Supply Co., and First United Methodist Church.
