At Tuesday’s meeting, the Marshall County Supervisors approved a listing of change orders for the courthouse renovation project totaling more than $550,000.

According to Marshall County Building and Grounds Director Lucas Baedke, a little more than two-thirds of the overall cost involved with the proposed change orders will be covered by EMC, the county’s insurance provider.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, Albion Mayor Pat Hemming and Marshalltown City Councilor Jeff Schneider approached the county board in an effort to gain the county’s support for future grant applications to help fund the paving of the Trails Inc. bike trail project that runs between the two communities.  Since the matter was brought up during the public comment portion of the meeting and was not on the agenda, no action could be taken by the board.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the board also renewed an insurance agreement that was previously in place with Health Partners UnityPoint Health for the Marshall County Medical Benefit Plan, with additional agreements being approved for other county employee insurance plans, as recommended.

Supervisors also approved the hiring of Ethan Meyer, Hunter Hughlette, Bill Carey, and Julie Stahl as seasonal employees for the Marshall County Conservation Department.

The county board also approved newly recommended pay increases for county election workers ahead of the upcoming June primary.
