A Marshalltown man was arrested by law enforcement authorities Saturday evening after he allegedly assaulted an acquaintance while armed with a shotgun in the town of Quarry.

According to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence in Quarry in response to a report of a man standing on top of the roof of a house shortly after 8 p.m. A man on the scene informed deputies he had received minor injuries during a confrontation with the suspect, 38-year-old Benjamin Kutzner, who fled the scene prior to officers arrival.

About an hour later, Kutzner was located at the Meskwaki Trading Post near Tama, at which time he was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail without incident.

Kutzner has since been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor; having possession of a firearm as a felon, a Class D Felony; first degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor; going armed with intent, a Class D Felony; and reckless use of a firearm, an offense which varies depending on the type of damages or injuries incurred during a given situation.

The incident remains under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
