The Marshalltown Fire Department has reported a notable increase in the number of arson fires that have occurred within the past 12 months.

According to a press release, there were nine fires during that time frame that, upon further investigation, were found to have been deliberately set. Of those fires, eight have been in vacant buildings located north of Anson Street.

The department is requesting the public’s assistance in monitoring vacant buildings for suspicious activity.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or has information concerning the fires is asked to contact the Marshalltown Fire Department at (641) 754-5751 or the Marshalltown Police Department at (641) 754-5725. All tips are completely anonymous and could earn a reward of up to $1,000 if the tip leads to an arrest.
