Two weeks after discussing the less-than-ideal condition of City Street, the Marshalltown City Council did not have another yes votes to raise the city’s debt limit to possibly provide more funding for street repair. With two members absent, the Council voted 3-2 in favor of raising the debt limit, but a four-vote majority of the Council as a whole was required to pass the resolution. Councilor Gary Thompson later tried to bring the resolution back before the Council.

Thompson’s motion to reconsider also failed to pass, as it needed five yes votes, which meant all Council members in attendance needed to vote yes. They didn’t.
