A distraught woman, hanging on to a bridge was rescued just before 1:30 this morning by the Ames Police and Ames Fire Departments.

Union pacific Railroad reported the woman on the bridge at Dayton Avenue. When police arrived, officers held the woman to keep her from falling. Ames Fire was contacted and while PF officers held the woman while the Fire Department positioned a ladder truck. An Officers climbed the ladder, secured the woman in a harness, and all of them were lowered to the ground by the firefighters.

The woman was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center for evaluation.
