Next Tuesday, the folks in Marshalltown’s 1st Ward will have the chance to go to the polls and vote for their City Council representative for the remainder of the year. Sue Cahill, resigned at the end of the year after being elected to the Statehouse. The Council then appointed Raymond Starks to the seat, but voter petitions resulted in next week’s election between Starks and former City Councilor Mike Ladehoff.

Starks feels that folks were are younger, renting and may be new to the community need as much representation as those who grew up in Marshalltown.

Starks says the continuing redevelopment of the downtown post-tornado, derecho and COVID will be a vital step in the growth of other areas of town, not just in the 1st Ward.
