The Marshalltown School District Board was among a number of districts to make a call on the Return To learn Plans for the upcoming school year, based on last Thursday’s guidelines issued by Governor Kim Reynolds.

Students through sixth grade in Marshalltown will go to school in person, while seven through 12thgraders will use a hybrid model, with the students split in half and alternating between on-site and online learning during the week.

Ames has settled on a phased-in approach as well, with details still to come. School won’t begin in Ames until September 8th.

Newton will return to a four-day school week with Monday’s reserved for remote learning at home.

The Urbandale and Waukee school boards have said they will not follow the Governor’s orders. Urbandale’s Rolling Green Elementary has been conducting classes online and had its request to continue that denied by the Iowa Department of Education, which said classroom instructions would have to begin Friday. The Urbandale Board last night voted to continue online learning.
