Good Morning!

What a great event we have with Pack the Backpack, presented by Central Office Supply, a division of Minuteman and Kix 101.1! Each month during the school year, we will be awarding $101 to a Kix Country classroom to help out with supplies. We will award the prize on the last Wednesday of the month. You can listen to each new winner at 8:30a on the Morning Kix Start.

Guess what?! Today is the last Wednesday of the month. I had a great time heading out to our September winner, the 2nd Grade class at East Marshall, specifically Ms. Kendra Gerrish’s class. She was nominated by her mom, Chaeli Gerrish. Her mom submitted the following letter to us at backpack@kixweb.com.

Hello!

I would like to nominate Ms. Kendra Gerrish’s 2nd grade classroom at East Marshall Elementary in Laurel, IA!  Ms. Gerrish is a brand new teacher!  She graduated from UNI in May, has been planning her wedding (October wedding-in October she will be Mrs. Caster =) ), all while trying to set up and furnish her very first classroom to help her students succeed in their new environment!  I know she still is in need of a carpet piece for their carpet time in the front of the room, a circle cutter, crayons, gel pens, 3 x 3 and 6 x 4 post it notes, a roll of flexible magnetic strip, and some erasable markers/pens!  She loves the bright colored paper as well!  I know she would be so appreciative of receiving some items to help her during her first year of teaching!  As her mom, I already know what a special young lady she is and how much her students will love her—and I also know she will learn so much from her students this year!  Thank you for considering Kendra for your Pack the Backpack contest!  =)

Also, we had a great time visiting the class and I had a chance to interview Kendra and get a cheer from the class. Listen here:

How awesome is that! Go Mustangs!
