Today will no doubt be an emotional day as the community remembers July 19th of last year, the tornado and its aftermath.
The first celebration will begin at 3:30 in front of the Courthouse as the City and Marshalltown Chamber are hosting an ice cream social, complete with Dilly Bars, comments from Mayor Joel Greer, bells to remember the time the twister first hit the ground, plus a way for you “sign off” on the event. A “Marshalltown Strong” banner will be stretched out across the courthouse fence on the Main Street side for you to sign or leave a tornado-related memory.
Lynn Olberding of the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce adds that the ice cream social is a way to bring folks together, celebrate how the community responded…and will continue to respond going forward.
