August 31st. That is the date shared with the Marshalltown City Council last night for completion of work on the new police and fire headquarters.

The original schedule looked at last December, but due to a contractor defaulting on masonry work and mother nature work is continuing. While the City Council did approve roughly $361,000 in change orders relating to the defaulting contractor, Public Works Director Justin Nickel the budget for the 17-and a half million dollar project is still in the black.

Nickel shared with the City Council that it is hoped that at least part of the amount of the change orders approved last night will eventually be reimbursed through negotiation or possible litigation with the contractor and/or the bondholder.
