A replacement tenant for the former KMart site in Marshalltown is moving closer to city approval. The City COuncil last night amended a Planning and ZOning Approval to allow UHaul Company of Iowa to not only open a retail and interior storage location at Meadow Lane Mall, but to also add two buildings for exterior storage. It was the Council’s first of three readings on a zoning change for the proposed facility.

Randy Dixon President of UHaul Company of Iowa says the project won’t look like UHaul facilities of then 70’s and 80’s and will feature a lot of storage space.

Between purchase of the building and renovation work, Dixon says estimated costs will be in the three to four million dollar range.
