The Iowa Hawkeyes took advantage of three turnovers and held on down the stretch to upset 18th ranked Mississippi State 27-22 in the Outback Bowl.
In the process, The Hawks posted just its second nine win season since winning the Orange Bowl in 2010.
Iowa won despite posting negative 15 yards of rushing. Quarterback Nate Stanley tossed three touchdown passes, two of them to game MVP Nick Easley.
While Iowa lost the rushing battle, it won the penalty battle; Mississippi State had nine for 80 yards while the Hawkeyes did not draw a flag.
