It was inevitable that the Emerald Ash Borer would make its way into Marshall and Tama Counties. Those two counties now join 53 others where the ask tree killing bug has now been found. A landonwer discovered the signs sof the EAB in a rural area just north of LeGrand.
It’s hard to stem the tide of this bug, which has decimated tens of millions of ash trees since 2002. Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship coordinator Mike Kinter says Marshall and Tama Counties says there is one critical thing to be aware of to help slow the spreading of the bug down; don’t move firewood from ash trees.
Kintner says there are a variety of treatments available to combat the emerald ash borer. More information is available through ISU Extension and outreach.
