“I don’t think Iowans are interested in tolls,”

“I have no interest in tolls.”

So said Governor Kim Reynolds after reports yesterday that the Iowa DOT was thinking about adding tools to Interstate 80 to help pay for the rebuilding of the highway. The Governor wasn’t alone in her lack of interest in a toll road.

Senator Tod Bowman of Maquoketa is the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Transportation Committee. Bowman says placing toll booths along Interstate-80 is a non-starter in the legislature.

Bowman says legislators might revisit the issue in the future if vehicles get so sophisticated that a toll could be charged automatically — but only to the out-of-state.
