The Marshalltown City Council on Monday heard from Executive Director Jenny Etter of the Downtown Central Business District who says a so called Self Supporting Municipal Improvement Disrict petition would be presented to Council next month. This would impose an additional tax levy on business owners for improvement purposes. Marshalltown Fire Chief David Rierson says the state has granted three fireworks sales licenses for the Marshalltown Area, he says he must visually inspect the operations before a complete go ahead can be given. City Public Works Director Justin Nickel told Council the design work on the Police and Fire Station buildings continues and the bidding process on an individual basis would be getting underway in the days and weeks ahead.
