A program was held at the Grimes Farm Nature Center on Tuesday night about fresh water mussells in Iowa. The program was hosted by the new Naturalist for the Marshall County Conservation Board Emily Herring who is from Eldora. She says the fresh water mussell is the most endangered species in the U-S for a number of reasons. There are 49 species in Iowa. Two types most found in Iowa are called Plain Pocketbook and the Giant Floater. Herring is a native of Des Moines and grew up at Pleasantville. She is married and has one child. She says she hopes to be able to educate in the classroom students from schools in all parts of Marshall County.
