At Monday’s Marshalltown City Council meeting, Tom Deimerly of the economic development group MEDIC told the council that Marshalltown was being considered by a Coralville based firm for a Holiday Inn Express location. The site would be in the Hawkeye Subdivision near the Hampton Inn. Deimerly says the deal would hinge on several factors that are in need of being finalized. The council passed a resolution that would move forward in purchasing the land that the Knights of Columbus Hall is on and also some other resolutions that will help move the project forward to build a joint police and fire station at the location of South Second and West Anson Streets. A construction manager would be brought on board by January. Downtown Central Business District Director, Jenny Etter spoke to the council and previewed the Art Walk event to be held the night of September 30th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in downtown Marshalltown.
