The American Film Institute released their lists of the top movies and TV shows of the year.  And they take this stuff SERIOUSLY.

According to their website, the “honorees” are, quote, “deemed by AFI’s Jury to be culturally and artistically representative of the year’s most significant achievements,” and “acknowledge the collaborative nature of film and TV production, bringing the community’s creative teams together in a unique celebration of their work.”

Here are their selections, in alphabetical order:

Movies:  “The Big Short”, “Bridge of Spies”, “Carol”, “Inside Out”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Martian”, “Room”, “Spotlight”,“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, and “Straight Outta Compton”.

Shows:  “The Americans”, “Better Call Saul”, “Black-ish”, “Empire”, “Fargo”, “Game of Thrones”, “Homeland”, “Master of None”, “Mr. Robot”, and “Unreal”.

Also, “Mad Men” has been recognized with an ‘AFI Special Award’ for its, quote, “contributions to America’s cultural legacy.”
