On Wednesday night, community members had the chance to view the design plans for the Water Plaza during the open house at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Bolton and Menk Landscape Architect Casey Byers, who has been working on the design of the Water Plaza from the get-go, described how the current design came to be and how they integrated the feedback they received from community members.   They initially got those comments when they were at the Harvest Market in September talking with the public. Hilde Debruyni, the artist who has been collaborating with Bolton and Menk on the project was also at the open house, and she discussed the artistic elements in the park like the central sculpture.  The core theme to the Water Plaza is “skipping a stone,” so the design incorporates many circles to mimic ripples in a body of water.  Community members were concerned about kids climbing on the central sculpture and hurting themselves, and they solved this issue by elevating the circular components to a height that kids would not be able to reach to climb on. In addition, the entire surface of the Water Plaza will be flat, making the area accessible to all.
